VEGGIE RESTAURANT STAFF ‘COVID HEROES’ FOR 3,000 FREE MEALS
Workers at a vegetarian restaurant have been hailed as ‘Covid Heroes’ after serving up greater than 3,000 free meals to assist lockdown-stricken locals.
The Gherkin in Levenshulme, Better Manchester, determined to chip in and assist the group, particularly these hit financially by the coronavirus pandemic.
Proprietor Jamie Whittaker, 40, and his 14-strong group have labored tirelessly to supply 3,360 cooked vegetarian meals, 1,120 home made desserts and 72 Christmas meals parcels to struggling locals.
Jamie, from Levenshulme, praised his ‘wonderful’ employees, including: “When delivering the meals, it was heart-wrenching to see so many individuals struggling however they have been very grateful. It’s good to be part of one thing optimistic.
“I’ve all the time been concerned in group work so I could not simply sit again and do nothing throughout this difficult time.”
